Last Week tonight host John Oliver paid sarcastic tribute to Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II on Sunday for becoming her nation’s longest-serving monarch after more than six decades on the throne.
The Prime Minister said that the founders of our National Constitution decided that Her Majesty would be Queen of Papua New Guinea under our constitution. In an evening address following her Coronation in June 1953, she said: “I have in sincerity pledged myself to your service, as so many of you are pledged to mine”.
Queen Elizabeth thanked a young girl for her “kind thought” after she invited her to her 7th birthday party.
In a media statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office, O’Neill congratulated the Queen for her record of service that has been truly extraordinary.
Despite the milestone, the queen and her husband, Prince Philip, conducted just one public event where she acknowledged the pivotal moment after reopening a restored railway line in Scotland.
Queen Victoria’s reign was marked by much pain and woe, having been described as a rather stubborn and willful lady.
Upon being suffocated by an emerging democracy, the royalty meant to create a bond between itself and the expanding electorate, but in the 1930s, it found itself in the midst of a constitutional crisis. The young queen had little to no political experience, and was told to only avoid the mistakes of King Edward VIII. “Trains still serve a practical goal in the modern era”.
The play was staged following her Academy Award win for playing the British monarch in “The Queen”.
