A construction worker at the Minnesota Vikings’ new stadium died Wednesday morning when he fell 50 feet while doing roofing work on the stadium’s north side.
Fire officials say the person who fell into the crevice has been injured.
The workers fell about 7:45 a.m., said a statement from John Wood, senior vice president for Mortenson Construction. The two workers immediately received medical attention on site and were transported to a local hospital. The second worker is in serious condition.
Both workers were from a subcontractor on the project, Berwald Roofing Co, Wood said.
“A man lost his life on this project today and that simply should never happen”, Wood said.
The extent of the victims’ injuries are unknown.
Neither worker was identified, pending notification of their families.
Fire crew members used a rescue basket, ropes and cables to retrieve the person atop the future home of the pro football team, according to the department.
There has reportedly been a death at the construction site of the new Minnesota Vikings stadium. The other worker was stabilized and brought down from the roof. Work on the facility, expected to open in time for the 2016 NFL season, passed the halfway mark last month.
