Obese man biking across US to lose weight

Hites, who now wears size 70 trousers and a 10X T-shirt, says he’s always been a big person.

“It’s definitely inspiring”, Purdy told The Daily News. He’s branded himself “Fat Guy Across America” and has been biking across the country, losing weight in the process.

TIVERTON, R.I. (AP) – A 560-pound man biking across the United States to lose weight hit a snag in Rhode Island. “I have a lot to prove and a lot to make happen”.

Hites told the paper that turning 40 was one part of what started his mission to health, but more importantly Hites said it was his failing relationship with his wife, and the need to get a good job to start a new life with her.

He hopes to lose hundreds of pounds, and he says he’ll be happier and healthier if he can get down to 300 pounds.

“You don’t have to end up on My 600 Pound Life”, said Hites.

Hites is sharing his story through his website fatguyacrossamerica.com. “Skip gastric bypass and do it on your own”.

He’s 90 miles into his journey, which began in Falmouth, Mass. In the first two weeks, Hites shed 60 lbs. It’s a testament that it is never too late to turn your life around.

Newport Bicycle is coming to Hites’s rescue, outfitting him with a new bike that can hold his weight.
