Alabama opened as an underdog to the Bulldogs for the teams’ Week 5 clash on Saturday. Nick Saban and Alabama will be an underdog for the first time in 73 games. If you’re counting, that’s 72 games ago. The Dogs opened as two-point favorites.
Alabama is coming off an easy 34-0 win over Louisiana-Monroe, but it failed to cover the 37.5-point spread in that game after getting upset in a 43-37 loss to Mississippi as a nine-point favorite the week before. Alabama went on to defeat Florida in that game and win the BCS National Championship Game.
Georgia is 11-1 SU in its last 12 games at home and is up to No. 8 in the AP Top 25. Georgia easily dispatched FCS opponent Southern.
Georgia has been on a roll as of late behind the arm of red-hot quarterback Greyson Lambert, so it’s no surprise the Dawgs are threatening to end Alabama’s streak.
The Bulldogs are presemtly the favorites in the SEC East after the rest of the divison has looked vulnerable through the first four weeks of the season.
