Former Arizona Cardinals assistant coach Jen Welter, the first woman to ever coach with an National Football League team, has decided to walk with Floyd Mayweather to the ring for his fight against Andre Berto on September 12, according to TMZ Sports.

However Welter, who holds a PhD in psychology, responded on Twitter, by saying that meeting with Mayweather would be an opportunity to engage with the champion.

The Cardinals hired Welter for the preseason in July. In an interview with Katie Couric last week, she spoke about how having more women in the locker room could help with the league’s domestic violence problem. Welter is under the assumption that Mayweather is trying to become a better person.

Welter spent the rest of Monday morning fending off people who didn’t think she should associate with, defend or try to help someone with Mayweather’s rap sheet.

Welter’s decision immediately drew criticism as Mayweather has a long history of domestic violence against women. He is still, four years later, if you ask him what happened in the home, he says, ‘Where are the pictures?

One outspoken critic of Welter attending the fight is ESPN host Michelle Beadle, who was reportedly banned from Mayweather’s May 2 fight against Manny Pacquiao and has been vocal about Mayweather’s domestic violence history. “What I do know is I certainly can’t do anything good by rejecting what seems to be an olive branch”.
