According to generally reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will be updating its iMac line of desktop all-in-one computers later this quarter.
As for performance, the 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMacs will most likely receive new Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, along with additional RAM for the lowest end units.
The last time we saw Apple refresh the iMac was in May earlier this year where they introduced a slightly more affordable 27-inch model. Apple’s refreshed iMac could also arrive with new graphics cards, as the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M and 755M cards in the current models have now become outdated. The screen will use an LED phosphor material called KSF that will “notably boost colour saturation”.
If Intel has Skylake processors with Iris Pro available by the time Apple wants to roll-out new iMacs, then I’d expect the whole lineup will move to Skylake processors.
A solid upgrade coming for the iMacWith better internals, coupled with a “much better” display, the new iMacs should represent solid evolutions of the iMac lineup.
In any case if you’re thinking of getting a new iMac or maybe upgrading your existing model, perhaps you should wait and see what Apple could have planned.
The native resolution of the new 4K 21.5-inch iMac is listed to be ‘4096×2304, ‘ which means that users can expect text and images to look absolutely crisp, considering how pixel density goes beyond the Retina mark when squeezed inside a small space of just 21.5-inches.
As a way to promote the upcoming iMacs, Apple is launching its “Back to School” program, which will allow a customer to get a pair of headphones from Beats Solo2 after purchasing a brand new iMac.
Kuo also predicts iMac sales to have an impressive growth of 100 percent quarter-over-quarter and that the total number of shipped units will reach up to one million at the end of the third quarter in 2015.
