Cabbies say the ride-hailing services – which let people use smartphone apps to book and pay for a private auto service – have dramatically cut into their ability to earn a living.

In Rio de Janeiro, where Uber also faces issues – to the point that it had moved offices to protect the integrity of its staff – the company is suggesting the introduction of a 1.5 percent levy charged on rides to drivers in order to finance the improvement of the public transport network, similarly to what it does in Mexico.

Clark County commissioners are expected to hear from Uber and Lyft officials Tuesday in an effort to enable the ride-sharing companies to obtain business licenses. She said the company plans to launch “very soon” and will do so simultaneously in northern and southern Nevada.

Those were the words uttered by the Nevada Transportation Authority on Monday as it approved the ridesharing company’s application to operate in the state.

Chelsea Wilson, a Public Policy Communications Manager at Lyft, said, “We want to be respectful of the TNC ordinance process taking place in Clark County and are hoping to be able to pass along additional information on the timing of a Vegas launch after the hearing tomorrow”.

Clark County spokesman Dan Kulin did not have fast remark Monday on the talks with ride-hailing corporations.

With Lyft’s approval, the NTA is scheduled to go over the application of ridesharing company Uber as well.

Uber briefly operated in Nevada last fall, but a judge ultimately ordered it to stop because it wasn’t abiding by the laws governing taxis and limos. Portland has allowed the two “transportation network companies” to operate temporarily while it rewrites its taxi regulations.

The Nevada Transportation Authority then drafted detailed rules specific to ride-hailing companies. He purposely left Philadelphia out of his bill, he said, because he wanted legislators from that end of the state to have input about how ride-hailing companies are regulated in their region. “There are 12,000 Uber drivers in Philadelphia”, she said.

Journey-hailing corporations as an alternative have a “zero-tolerance” drug and alcohol coverage and say they droop drivers in real-time when a passenger reviews a driver who may be underneath the affect.
