New Honda NSX delayed until 2016

It was only April when Acura gave us another reason to jump for joy, as the company released additional info on the NSX sportscar.

Production of Acura’s new sports auto that will be made in Marysville will begin next spring, later than what had been initially thought. However, that’s been pushed back to mid-2016 due to the change in the vehicle’s engine layout which occurred when the new NSX was being developed.

This delay is being blamed on a decision late in the development phase to switch from a naturally aspirated V6 to a turbocharged unit.

With the addition of forced induction, the Japanese automaker had to develop a longitudinal V6 engine which added time to the engineering process.

A Honda spokesman expanded on this by saying “With Acura announcing the delay of the NSX that will affect mass production [of the Honda version] for Europe as it all comes from the same factory”. Two models were on display for the first time.

The twin-turbo V6 is aided by three electric motors: one for each of the front wheels, and one at the rear that, in Honda’s words, “applies its torque directly to the crankshaft for higher output with immediate power delivery to the rear wheels”.

Also present on the new NSX is a Super Handling All-Wheel Drive System along with ten air-cooled heat exchangers keeping the powertrain’s temperature under control.
