New England Patriots release QB Matt Flynn, sign Ryan Lindley

The release of Flynn has minimal financial implications, as his only guaranteed money came in the form of a $20,000 signing bonus.

UPDATE: NFL Network has reported that the Chicago Bears have traded guard Ryan Groy to the Patriots. Flynn was on the active/non-football injury list with a hamstring injury. The Patriots’ preseason opener is Thursday against the Packers, and the team had a need for a third quarterback.

Belichick did not rule out bringing back Flynn at some point. The Patriots apparently grew sick of waiting for him to get healthy.

“There’s definitely something to that, yeah”, Belichick said.

“We’ll see how it goes”, Belichick said. While filling in for the injured Rodgers in 2010, Flynn passed for 3 touchdowns and threw for 251 yards in a 31-27 losing effort to the Patriots in Foxborough.

Lindley was drafted No. 185 overall in the sixth round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals. The 6-foot-3, 232-pounder was then signed by the San Diego Chargers to the practice squad.

One thing is for certain, Arizona Cardinals fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief, with Lindley signed elsewhere it will be much more hard for Ryan Lindley to pop back up on the Cardinals roster.

In addition to starting the playoff game last year, he’s started six regular season games and played in nine, throwing two touchdowns while getting picked off 11 times.

Belichick said, “He has some experience, been with a couple different organizations, played some, and he’s healthy. And his health, the most important trait”. He began his college career at Northeast Mississippi Community College and moved to LSU for the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
