Nelson Mandela’s grandson accused of raping 15-year-old

Mashadi Selepe. He appeared briefly in court Monday when he was charged with rape.

The incident allegedly took place Friday, August 7, 2015, in the toilet of a popular bar-restaurant in the district of Greenside, Johannesburg, says the country’s press.

A 24-year-old grandson of Nelson Mandela has been arrested on charges of raping a 15-year-old girl, according to the global Business Times.

“Instead, Winnie’s bodyguard went to the family pretending to be a cop”.

Mandela will remain in custody at the Parkview police station until his next court appearance.

On Wednesday, Mandela appeared in a Johannesburg court where he’ll be held until a Friday bail hearing.

The girl’s family was angry with the way they were treated by the police and Mandela family, according to the family spokesperson.

She further insisted that fair treatment would be given, despite the accused being a Mandela. The owner, Yaw Dwomoh, said they would be more than happy to cooperate with the police, but no one from law enforcement has stopped by to question the owner or the staff.

The spokesman of the girl’s family told to the Daily Sun that the girl was with her friends in the restaurant when it happened.

Nelson Mandela is popularly known for leading the fight against apartheid and later became the first president of a liberated South Africa. The complainant alleges Mandela followed her to the bathroom.

His bail application has been postponed until Tuesday, meaning he can not legally be named until then.

He died in December 2013 at the age of 95, leaving behind 17 grandchildren.

In March, another grandson, Mandla Mandela, was convicted of assaulting a schoolteacher in a road-rage incident.
