The father of a two-year-old girl whose body was found on a Boston-area beach in June says the mother has told him her boyfriend killed the child because he believed she was possessed by demons.

The pair allegedly kept Bella’s body inside their refrigerator for about a month before dumping it on the Boston beach.

On Saturday afternoon, Amoroso paid his respects to his 2-year-old daughter, previously known as “Baby Doe” around New England, who was found dead inside a trash bag on Deer Island in Winthrop in June.

He told reporters, “I have a lot of sympathy for Rachelle because I know she didn’t do it. I hold DCF responsible for a lot of this”. Her head appeared swollen and her face was gray. The friend also told police that McCarthy had become involved in the occult and purported to see demons and ghosts, according to Deakin. “My Bella loved her birthday party and all the awesome things she got”.

Assistant District Attorney David Deakin said Monday, addressing the judge, that a lifelong friend of McCarthy told police he had lived with the couple and Bella earlier this year but moved out because he was appalled at how they treated her.

Michael Sprinsky had seen the Baby Doe composite on September 16, and sent a text message to Rachelle Bond and McCarthy, accusing them of killing Bella and adding that he “wished they rot in hell”, according to court documents.

Police then headed to the apartment, and a State Police trooper noticed children’s clothing on the floor, including the “zebra” theme that investigators had seized on after Bella had washed up on the shores of Deer Island.

When Bond panicked, McCarthy threatened to kill her, too, she later told police. The court decided on no bail for Mr. McCarthy and $1 million bail for Ms. Bond.

Amoroso then said of the arraignment; ‘It was tremendously hard… probably one of the hardest things I’ve had to sit through’.

Bond’s lawyer, Janice Bassil, asked the judge to set a low cash bail of $250 and allow her to be under house arrest with an electronic bracelet. Deakin said the tipster told police that Rachelle Bond had admitted McCarthy killed Bella.

Later, Rachelle Bond told him that McCarthy had murdered the young girl, Amoroso said. At the time, Natalie and her baby boy were living in a home for woman in transition in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston.

Amoroso says he doesn’t believe Bella’s mother would have done anything to hurt her.

The unidentified friend claimed that he was walking with Rachelle last Wednesday when she confided that she had stopped using drugs. The agency was last in contact with Bond’s family in 2013, the Boston Herald reported.

McCarthy’s attorney, Jonathan Shapiro, did not ask for his client’s release on bail, the Boston Globe reported. According to prosecutors, McCarthy told Bond “she was a demon anyway”.

The Massachusetts State Police will continue to work with the Suffolk District Attorney throughout the prosecution to ensure that Bella’s voice, silenced by these two defendants, is heard again before the law.
