More than 170 Elvis artifacts to be auctioned at Graceland

They bid on 160 items belonging to the late singer, including a gold-and-diamond necklace with the letters “TCB” – meaning “taking care of business” – that was a gift from fellow Las Vegas entertainer Sammy Davis Jr.

One of the most surprisingly high bids was for a racquetball shirt worn by Elvis, which sold for $32,000, well above the estimate selling price of $4,000 to $6,000.

The pendant sold for 32,000 dollars (£20,500). The authenticated Presley gadgets have been from third-party collectors exclusively and never from the mansion or Graceland archives that are owned by Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of Elvis and Priscilla Presley.

The sale was hyped as a unique collection of “artifacts from across the spectrum of collecting, including items owned by Elvis, gifted by Elvis, written by Elvis, used by Elvis and created to promote the King and his career”.

“There were some nice surprises… and we were thrilled”, Jeff Marren, consignment director for Graceland Auctions, said on Friday.

“I’m a big Elvis fan and I heard they were doing volume two of the stamps”, said Damadeo, who ranked “Jailhouse Rock” as his top Presley tune.

16th will mark the 38 anniversary of the passing of Elvis Presley.

Not every track’s a victor – you can give the mawkish sentiments of “Woman Without Love” a miss – but Presley sinks his teeth into the soulful “Shake a Hand” and has great fun with the country rock of “T-R-O-U-B-L-E”.

Those items pulled included a “Starburst” jumpsuit Presley wore during concerts in Las Vegas in 1973, and a guitar signed by Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis.

The first batch of items to sell touched on Presley’s early years in Memphis.
