Chandimal will miss Sri Lanka’s next one-day global, against the West Indies on November 1, for making “deliberate physical contact” with Sharma while he was involved in an altercation with Prasad.

India grabbed the last five wickets for 26 runs after Sri Lanka were sailing at a comfortable 242-5 before Perera’s dismissal. An angry fast bowler is a captain’s delight. Kohli will be hoping that spinners manage to extract some purchase from the fifth day pitch. In reply, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 268.

But their top-order quickly came and went for the second time in the match as Ishant found an effective means to vent his anger. “Unfortunately, we didn’t. We’ll try to rectify those mistakes in the future”, he said.

Ashwin took 21 wickets to be declared the Man-of-the-Series. The 117-run triumph was also a Virat Kohli’s maiden series win as captain of the national side. The match will however be remembered for being the last Test of Kumara Sangakkara, the gentleman cricketer from Sri Lanka, and a role model for many around the world. Amit Mishra’s three for 72 in the match has elevated him two places to a career-high 37th, while Umesh Yadav has also improved his ranking by two places to 42nd.

Their 33-run partnership was ended by Ashwin, who succeeded in foxing Thirimanne by a looping delivery.

Along with Perera, who got his second half-century in his Test debut, took the attack to the opposition with the latter especially continuing from where he left off in the first innings. He lost concentration shortly before the tea break and was caught trying to reverse-sweep Ashwin.

Ishant Sharma celebrates with teammates after dismissing Sri Lanka’s Dinesh Chandimal.

Four players – Chandimal, Sharma, Thirimanne & Prasad charged for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct after a fiery fourth day of the third SSC Test between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo.

During Sri Lanka’s first innings, Prasad injured his hand, trying to fend off a bouncer bowled by Sharma. “Details to be announced after the conclusion of the Test”, the ICC said on Twitter.
