Lamb is accused of killing Amy Prentiss and a professor at Delta State University before eventually taking his own life late Monday.

The suicide ended a chaotic day during which police say Lamb, 45, killed Amy Prentiss, 41, in the home they shared in Gautier, Miss., and then Ethan Schmidt, 39, a father of three and a history professor at Delta State, in Cleveland, Miss.

A geography instructor who killed two people and touched off a day of horror at Delta State University in Mississippi scribbled a note after shooting his live-in girlfriend to say he was very sorry and that he wished he “could take it back”.

Shannon Lamb, the suspect in a fatal shooting on a Mississippi college campus, allegedly admitted to the murder of Amy Prentiss, saying “I shot my wife last night”, according to the call, released by the Gautier, Mississippi, Police Department. In a 911 call, Lamb confessed to killing her the night before, police said.

“I would have given up if it weren’t for him”, she said. Lamb ultimately pulled over and ran from the vehicle.

His body has also been processed at the crime lab and is now being kept at a funeral home before being transferred to Schmidt’s home state of Kansas. “We want to make sure the victim and his family are treated with respect”, Bingham said. Schmidt had written several books and scholarly papers and had expertise in Native American history.

The Delta State Twitter account recently updated that classes would be cancelled on Tuesday, following the aftermath of the shootings, and that counselors would be on staff to help affected students.

The event was a chance for the university community to remember a beloved professor and continue the healing process after a tragic shooting on campus.

“We’re talking about a guy who was highly dedicated to his children and to his students”, a former student of Lamb’s, Hannah Rapetti, said of him.

Brandon Beavers, an education major, said he had a class under Lamb previous year.

It is unknown if Lamb had a specific reason for going to Arkansas or why he was returning, although police have said he may have had family in northern Mississippi. He added that there was no resistance when police set up perimeters, asked people to shelter in place, moved them from place to place, or any of the other procedure that went on during the crisis. LaForge praised him as a “star” professor.

The Delta town is about an hour from the interstate. “She and her mother were absolutely best friends”.

“The tragic events of yesterday have left us all stunned and numb”, said Delta State President William LaForge.

It later confirmed that Ethan Schmidt, a professor of American history, had been killed.
