Mirwaiz Snubs Geelani, Yasin; Attends Eid Milan In Delhi

The Eid Milan party was attended by people from various walks of life including Congress leader, Mani Shankar Aiyar, journalists and academia.

“But Mr. Basit assured us that the issue was mentioned through the talks held between the 2 governments and Prime Ministers”, Mirwaiz advised reporters after assembly Basit on the “Eid Milan” occasion on the Pakistani embassy right here. Mr Basit separately expressed the wish that all “disputes” between the two countries, “particularly Kashmir”, should be resolved through dialogue.

Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit said on Tuesday that Islamabad was committed to improving ties with New Delhi amid renewed tensions between the two hyphenated but hostile neighbours. “Ignoring Kashmir will not lead India and Pakistan anywhere”, Farooq said. “We see a glimmer of hope”, he added.

“I hope very soon we move from confrontation to cooperation”.

Mirwaiz, however, said he decided to attend the event to convey his “concerns” over non-inclusion of Kashmir in the Summit meeting.

“On being asked why Geelani refused and you accepted the invitation, Shabir said that ‘rejecting Eid Milan invitation is Geelani’s personal decision”.

“We lodged our strong protest against skipping Kashmir issue during the meeting between Modi-Nawaz, ” he said.

The High Commissioner also expressed hope that India and Pakistan will have good relations in future.

Unhappy over exclusion of Kashmir in the Modi-Sharif meeting, he told PTI that the issue has to be addressed if the two countries want to build trust.

Breaking months of deadlock, India and Pakistan made a decision to revive the dialogue process following talks between Nawaz and Modi in Russian Federation.
