This morning Huckabee was pretty vague about what happened, but in an interview with Newsmax’s Steve Malzberg later today, Huckabee didn’t exactly deny that his staff kept Cruz from speaking, saying, “This was our event”. The Supreme Court’s ruling in favor of gay marriage, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal told his followers after the decision, “will pave the way for an all out assault against the religious freedom rights of Christians”.

Without directly attacking any of his 16 challengers, Huckabee, the author of “God, Guns, Grits, and Gravy” who announced his White House candidacy in May, said that “most of them said that she either ought to resign – or most all of them said that she’s wrong, and we ought to just surrender to the courts”. “Those who are persecuting Kim Davis believe that Christians should not serve in public office”.

Over the past couple of months, Kim Davis has become quite the celebrity on a national level.

“I think it’s a real mistake and even those on the other side of the issue, I think it sets their movement back”, Paul said.

“I’m happy about her release”.

The reality of religious liberty in America is evident in how Republican presidential candidates like Sen.

Both Mike Huckabee and Ted Cruz have made it clear they’re both firmly behind Kim Davis, the Kentucky clerk was was jailed (though release yesterday) over her refusal to issue gay marriage licenses, despite multiple orders to do so. As the Huffington Post’s Gabriel Arana put it, Kim Davis has more in common with the racist bus driver than she does Rosa Parks.

Graham emphasized that while the Supreme Court may have legalized same-sex marriage, it has “not secured the religious freedom guaranteed to us by the First Amendment” and encourages Christians to continue praying for this “ongoing battle”. His people have rallied, and you are a strong people. “Don’t let down. Because he is here”.

But he warned Davis not to “interfere in any way directly or indirectly”, as such action would be considered “a violation”. Davis’ release did come with the condition that she not stop her deputies from issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

When Ted Cruz showed up and tried to join Huckabee, Davis, her husband, and her lawyer on the stage, a Huckabee staffer literally, physically blocked the Texas senator from participating. “That’s why nothing has been resolved”, attorney Mat Staver said. “She was brought to tears when she heard that so many people outside the jail and around the country are praying for her”. Of course. But what about the judge and the Kentucky Legislature, who couldn’t work out any other solution than to jail her?
