Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is serious about fightig Apple on all fronts.

Microsoft first unveiled “Windows Bridge” a few months back, a new tool for developers that aims to make porting iOS apps to Windows 10 easier and hopefully breathe some life into the Windows Store in the process.

Close on the heels of Microsoft’s official disclosure of Windows 10 installation numbers, the unofficial estimates about the number of users having upgraded to the new OS started coming in. Microsoft has been launching many apps for free.

This is certainly a crafty thing for Microsoft to do, especially as those of you that had to pay for Windows 10 are able to use the Windows DVD Player for free. Once it’s done, your PC will now be running Windows 10.

For the business-minded developer, these moves by Microsoft are an opportunity to move enterprise apps to a different set of users and potential customers.

If you upgrade from an edition of Windows 7 that does not include Media Center or you do a clean install of Windows 10 or buy a PC with Windows 10 preinstalled, you cannot score the DVD Player for free. As well as installing the extension on your system, you also need to make sure Chrome is the default browser rather than Microsoft Edge; to do that from the Windows 10 Settings app, choose System and then Default apps.
