The person was not named, but Monday’s statement says that the ex-director of the Altiplano prison in Mexico state will be tried on charges of aiding in the July 11 escape of Guzman.

Journalist Anabel Hernandez wrote for the Mexican news weekly Proceso that the government knew back in March that people connected with Guzman were looking for blueprints of the prison. He dropped via a hole in a shower right in to a mile-long tunnel equipped with a modified motorbike, lighting & air flow, & has not been officially seen since.

Earlier this month a federal judge began proceedings against four officials including two intelligence service members and two prison control room employees.

Other footage of the moment when the convicted drug lord stepped out of his cell and into the escape tunnel has already been released to the public.

Mexican authorities have announced the arrest of 13 suspects, including Celina Oseguera Parra – the former head of Mexico’s federal prisons – and two ex-directors of the Altiplano prison, the maximum-security facility from which El Chapo escaped in July, reported the BBC. He escaped jail in 2001, and it took Mexican law enforcement 13 years to catch up with him.

Oseguera is the most senior official arrested so far in connection with Guzman’s escape.

Guzman, 60, built an estimated $1 billion fortune as the leader of the Sinaloa drug cartel that supplied much of the marijuana, cocaine and heroin sold on US streets, reported CNN and the Houston Chronicle.
