The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will be suspending 114 of 155 active road construction projects statewide.
A 12-mile detour about 25 miles south of the bridge is expected to coincide with large numbers of people heading north for the holiday, and will likely cause heavy traffic.
A deep underground spring bubbled to the surface and collapsed pavement on U.S. Highway 31 in Emmet County, resulting in a detour lasting through Labor Day as crews make $1.2 million in repairs to fix the problem, the Detroit Free Press reports.

“We do try to pull the orange barrels aside”, said James Lake, spokesman for MDOT in the northern Lower Peninsula.
The department says more than 40,000 people are expected to take part in Monday’s bridge walk.
“That guy walks fast”, said Chris Christensen, 43, of Boyne City, who walked just behind Snyder a few years ago.
Sprinkle Road in Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo County, has one lane open in each direction over I‐. Drivers can expect to take a detour route starting Wednesday, September 9, 2015.
