Shots rang out late Wednesday night at a Collin County apartment complex. The officers returned fire, killing the man.

McKinney police are investigating a shooting Wednesday at the Cliffs of Eldorado apartments. Police confirmed only that the suspect was holding the woman and child against their will.

McKinney police officers arrived moments later and located a white van.

When officers attempted to take the man into custody, the man shot at officers, police said.

There were no other injuries and the deceased suspect has been identified as Joseph Khammash, a 35 year old male from McKinney, Texas.

NBC 5 reported that officers fired back at the man, striking him several times. The 35-year-old man was a resident of McKinney.
