McCain Says Trump Owes Veterans An Apology

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump appeared on NBC’s “Today” show on Monday morning, saying that illegal immigrants get treated better than many US veterans and repeatedly accusing the hosts of taking his remarks about Sen.

Trump, who has said he has no plans to apologize to McCain, says he is mad with the Arizona senator for describing his backers as “crazies”. McCain, the 2008 GOP presidential nominee, spent more than five years as a prisoner of war, enduring torture and refusing release ahead of fellow captives. “I like people that weren’t captured”, says Trump flippantly, as the audience reacts negatively.

McCain thinks that Trump owes an apology to the families of veterans and POWs nationwide.

The McCain-Trump imbroglio erupted in the political arena after Trump, speaking at an Iowa event for religious voters on Saturday, pivoted from criticizing McCain on immigration issues to rebuking the notion that McCain acted heroically during the Vietnam War.

Trump had said McCain isn’t a real hero, simply based on his time in captivity. I thought the idea was to capture them.

After crossing the McCain line, though, “I don’t see how he recovers from that, even though I do believe he’s going to hold on to a certain base”.

Businessman Donald Trump is scheduled to give the keynote address at Republicans’ Lincoln Day Dinner for Genesee and Saginaw counties. I like people that weren’t captured – OK, I hate to tell ya.

He made them while addressing a gathering of conservatives in Iowa on Saturday when the moderator referred to the Arizona Republican as a war hero. “To me, if you’re in the arena, a lot goes on”.

“Excuse me, Matt”, Trump said. “And I do think it is a disqualifier as commander in chief”.

“I haven’t had a detailed conversation with the president about this, but obviously there’s a spirited process that’s underway on the Republican side and, you know, this will be a significant challenge for Republican candidates, but they’ll ultimately have to navigate their way through this process”, he said.

Gov. Scott Walker’s first visit to Iowa as a presidential candidate may have padded his lead in the state among Republican caucus-goers, according to the latest poll from Monmouth University.

A group representing retired military officers called on Monday for Donald Trump to apologize to Sen. His celestial ego is crowding out the rest of the GOP field, none of whom has his star power or unflinching honesty.
