Former Real Madrid midfielder and Manchester United legend David Beckham seems to have finally found a home for the MLS franchise he is looking to open in Miami. “And you are trying to build a sport.’ It was a challenge getting people to understand that”. A lot will happen over the next six months as they close on the land.
Garber went on to say that he is looking forward to Beckham’s return and that he is a big part of the MLS history.
Though Rooney’s current deal ends in 2019, the 29-year-old-who will then be 33-could perhaps be tempted to move a year early in order to get in at the ground floor with Beckham’s team. His decision to join the LA Galaxy in 2007 was huge for the league, raising the attendance and convincing other veterans to come over. A few others have expressed their interest in joining when their contracts are up.
“To even be talking about it while he’s under contract I guess speaks to the way we operate”. Rumors have said in the past that he could end up joining Beckham’s team.
When Garber, the league chief for 16 years, spoke at Soccerex in Manchester on Wednesday, he revealed that talks between MLS and the Premier League have been held, with a tournament involving both England and North American teams proposed. He now calls it a college kid.
In recent interviews regarding his new autobiography, Steven Gerrard has been somewhat melancholic in saying that he misses playing at Liverpool FC everyday, the intensity of the games, the quality of the players, etc. Whether or not we should read further into this, or if it is just due to the timing of the BPL starting, is an interesting question.
The MLS did bring Dos Santos and Giovinco, who are still young, so that’s a good sign.
“We have wealthy owners but we are very committed to the idea that at the start of every season every fan can think their team can win a championship”, he explained.
