A 24-year-old Mississippi man with no prior criminal history was charged with murder after he shot and killed another man outside of the Madison County Courthouse Monday morning.
Kendrick Armond Brown, 37, was facing charges of selling cocaine and had been sentenced to prison time on past drug counts, according to an indictment dated February 10.
Brown died of a single gunshot to the chest, Madison County Coroner Alex Breeland said, according to USA Today.
“From my understanding he fired the shots at the individual and was immediately approached by deputies here at the courthouse and laid the firearm down and peacefully was taken in to custody”, said Sheriff Tucker.
Guest said he thought there was little that deputies could have done to prevent the shooting.
“Sheriff Tucker and his people do a great job of providing a very secure place”, Guest says.
‘He was a good guy.
The victim was shot in the chest and killed.
Authorities are still unsure what prompted someone to fatally shoot a man outside a Mississippi courthouse Monday. Brown said early Monday that Canton police had no suspects.
“You know I can’t speculate on why”. The crowd outside the courthouse then moved to the home of Brown’s mother.
The 32-year-old father of two was expected by prosecutors to reject a plea offer, Guest added.

Madison County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Heath Hall says Wells’ bond hearing in Madison County Justice Court is now set for 1 p.m. Tuesday.
“The mother did get shot Saturday night when she was getting ready to go to work,” the police chief said. The victim’s mother said when she arrived at the courthouse, authorities told her he had died. The homes are just southeast of Canton’s courthouse square, both purchased out of foreclosure by Willie B. Davis, who is married to Sherry Wells. A few officers used metal detectors outside, sifting through pine needles. The courthouse is just north of Canton’s main square and historical district.
