The ironic part is that Miller was slated to direct his own Justice League film back in 2007, but the project was scrapped in favor of the direction the DC cinematic universe is going now. It isn’t known how their stories will splinter off. For the time being, the entire plot for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hasn’t even been revealed.
Given how strong Max Mad: Fury Road performed – grossing over $370 million worldwide – and the universal praise it drew from critics and audience, it’s no wonder Miller has been a highly sought after to director for new material.
And it’s not just idle speculation either.
Superman may get a little furious for his next solo film. While this is not officially confirmed, Collider Movie Talk contributor Jon Schnepp broke the news during a recent podcast.
This would not be the first time the Mad Max director was attached to the DC Comics universe. We know that Warner Bros. and DC plan to do a two-part Justice League movie in the wake of Snyders DOJ (with the rumors being that Snyder would direct those, as well).
This is a rumor at this point, but it has a few sources and a basis in reality. But when that schedule was first announced, Warner Bros CEO Kevin Tsujihara made it clear that just because there weren’t any solo Batman or Superman movies on the calendar, it didn’t mean that there wouldn’t be eventually.
George Miller, director of Mad Max: Fury Road and Happy Feet, could end up helming the follow-up to Man of Steel, rumors say. For his trouble, Miller went on to make what was probably the best movie of this summer.
Appearing on the latest episode of PopCorn Talk, Schnepp said, with confidence, that Miller would direct the Superman sequel, reports ComicBook.
As far as we know, however, WB has all their DC films scheduled to 2020 with films that include Superman.
