And now, four years later, Lupe has upped the Fiasco with a diabolical scheme to eradicate the lingering menace of his dud 3rd studio LP from existence, once and for all.
Although the album is perceived by many as poor and lacklustre, the Chicago rapper admits that he himself is a fan of the project.
It is also his most successful which makes for a nuanced situation in conversations about pop music not always being the best music to possibly come out of an artist’s repertoire.
And so, if you were one of the unhappy purchasers of the album, Lupe has requested that you to send the album back (let’s not even get into what a ridiculous request that is in the digital age), so he can destroy it with actual, IRL lasers.
The man may have actually cooked it. U OK, Lupe?
While Fiasco stands behind “Lasers”, many fans regard it as his worse album, and Lupe wants to make amends for that.
Fiasco says he decided to “unmake an album” after watching the documentary, “Atari: Game Over”, about the Atari game “E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial”. So here’s my idea.
Though he says he personally likes the album, he understands that there is a “myth that it’s one of the worst rap albums ever but sometimes the myth can be stronger than the truth”.
The 33-year-old rapper was, however, quick to note that people who sent their copies in to be zapped would not be “getting any money back or an apology or anything like that”.
But instead of receiving money as closure, Lupe just wants to destroy the album and act like it never happened. As Complex reports, he now says he wants to “unmake an album”, and he’s offering to accept any used physical copies of Lasers that fans want to send him and to destroy those copies with an actual laser. “No hard feelings”, Fiasco wrote.
If your down hit me up in the comments or on Twitter with the hashtag #TheReturnOfLasers and if we get enough #LaserHaters willing to have their physical copy destroyed then will do it on New Year’s Day 2016!!!
