The Detroit Lions have long favored keeping three quarterbacks on their 53-man roster, but with injuries an issue and several promising young players to keep, they broke from tradition Saturday.
With the release of Winn, the Lions will likely have room to retain preseason star Zach Zenner, who led the National Football League in rushing during four preseason games.
News not so good for a couple other locals, as the Sioux Falls native Tom Farniok was cut by the Vikings, and United States dollars alum Tyler Starr was cut by the Falcons.
Winns strengths were short-yardage situations and special teams.
Moore has spent the last three seasons in Detroit as the Lions third string quarterback. According to MLive, Moore would have practice squad eligibility if the Lions wanted to go that route as the franchise has been big on keeping the continuity of the quarterback room intact for starter Matthew Stafford. Maybe it was the two touchdowns he scored against the Lions while playing for the Patriots in 2014.
Even though, this is just speculation it appears that rookie cornerback Alex Carter and wide receiver Greg Salas could be placed on injured reserve.
