Thursday was a big day for the LeBron James Family Foundation. In the last 10 years, the LeBron James Family Foundation has been active in the Akron, Ohio, community, James’ hometown, and raised money for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, refurbishing 29 of them.
Though the exact details of the program and the scholarship qualifications are still to be worked out, the award will cover full tuition and the school’s service fee for all four years of college.
The Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James is arguably on of the most talented, not only as a player in the National Basketball Association, athlete in the world. LeBron James Family Foundation runs the “I Promise” program, which backs up students in middle school through high school to study and attend school. That means James, through his foundation, just pledged almost $42 million to educate the youth of Akron.
The first eligible group is this year’s class, now in seventh grade, which will graduate high school in 2021 and be sent off en masse to college by King James himself! James has said to the media that he wants Thompson to return, but according to ESPN.com’s Brian Windhorst, the sides are not close on a deal. A year’s tuition at the University of Akron is now about $9,500.
“I think it’s silly they’re making these guys play three and four Olympics”, Barkley said, in an interview with SiriusXM National Basketball Association radio. Under this renewed commitment, JPMorgan Chase will provide technology resources to develop a program that will enable progress reporting for Akron I Promise Network (AIPN) students’ measurable data to ensure they are on track to meet the scholarship requirements. “You don’t really know your future”. The result was an initiative they believe will inspire the area’s youth to achieve and reach their potential.
“He has a chance to change their futures”, Campbell said. The news seems to be a good PR move for Akron, who has recently faced an avalanche of negative publicity ranging from financial issues, slashes to resources and jobs, the dissolution of its baseball program, and a for-sale ad on Craigslist.
