Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton has passed an advanced diving course and is now a qualified scuba diver.
Get ready, Charlotte! Of course it’ll be a few years yet before the kids can actually join their royal parents under the waves, but I think it’s awesome that Kate is getting herself ready for the eventuality – AND that she’s out there passing diving certification tests three months after popping out her second kid!
It is believed Kate secured the advanced open water qualification at a diving school in Mustique in the Caribbean, a favourite holiday destination of the Middleton family. So it’s impressive that the duchess has managed to obtain a qualification in advanced scuba diving in the meantime, an achievement that has been confirmed by Kensington Palace. The Telegraph reported that the Duchess was encouraged to try it out by her husband, Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, who was named the president of the British Sub-Aqua Club. However, this other hobby goes much deeper and is more extreme.
When he took on the role as president of the BSAC, the UK governing body, Prince William said he hoped that little Prince George would follow him by taking up snorkelling and scuba diving.
There are five dives – including the must-do deep and underwater navigation dives – which have to be completed successfully in order to gain the advanced qualification. The qualification was issued by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI).
The underwater navigation elements aims to fine tune compass navigation skills and helps you better navigate using kick-cycles, visual landmarks and time. “They’re quite the sportsmen”. Britain’s Prince William (R) and his wife Catherine (C) prepare to sail on Team New Zealand’s America’s Cup yachts on Auckland Harbour on April 11, 2014.
A keen sports enthusaist, the Duchess recently visited the base of Ainslie’s Land Rover BAR Racing team, where she tried out an Oculus Rift sailing simulator.
