The Wichita Eagle reported that Ertz was likely out for the season.

“He responded with a great deal of confidence, and I think his teammates supported him well”, Snyder said.

Hubener played in relief of injured Jesse Ertz last weekend as Kansas State opened its season with a 34-0 victory over South Dakota. All of them do, and then to have it take you out of a game like it did.

Ertz tore his anterior cruciate ligament in his knee when he was a senior in high school. Ertz came up with a bit of a limp and then following the next play was helped off the field, and was later carted off the field and into the locker room.

Many insiders believe the Cheney H.S. grad will be the starting quarterback when K-State heads to Texas-San Antonio next week. He fought through that setback during his first season on campus and earned K-State’s Red Raider Award as the scout team’s top contributor while he sat out with a redshirt.

“I mean, you can just see his poise”, Snyder said.

Joe Hubener, who was the chief backup to Jake Waters a year ago, will inherit the starting spot, including this week’s game against UTSA. He has never started a game at quarterback at any level. His statistics would have been better if not for drops from his receivers.

“I feel dramatically bad for him”, said Coach Bill Snyder following the game. Justin Silmon rushed for 51 yards on six carries and Dominique Heath caught three passes for 54 yards. Reports said he was noticeably upset Saturday. “If that is the case again next week, I will try to do the same”.
