Holm at the very least will be an intriguing matchup for Rousey, as she enters the fight with an extensive background in both boxing and kickboxing.
“When you talk about the possibilities of what Holly can do… she’s a world-class boxer… the Holly Holm fight for Ronda is way more intriguing”.
In the whirlwind of fight announcements (read about those here and here) made by UFC yesterday (Fri., August 21, 2015), including Ronda Rousey vs. Holly Holm for the 135-pound title in the main event, one more is being reportedly targeted to take place on the same night inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. “The Preacher’s Daughter” has won two decision in the UFC and hasn’t looked spectacular or lived up to the hype from her boxing days.
Tate will likely get a third fight with Rousey but right now Holm gets the nod.
The 28-year-old champion is coming off her sixth successful defence of her UFC title, a:34 knockout victory over previously undefeated Bethe Correia in the main event of UFC 190 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She will enter this bout five career stoppage wins, including four by way of knockout. “She’s not the average chick that I would fight”, Rousey told ABC. “No one knows exactly how the fights are going to go, and that’s why people buy them….”
But Nunes has moved on with a new opponent in mind: Miesha Tate. She added that she was told that she was the next in line for a title shot.
Rousey also has been challenged by Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino, the Brazilian veteran widely considered the world’s best female fighter after Rousey.
A second title bout is set for UFC 195 as UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk defends against Claudia Gadhela.
After defeating Jessica Eye last month in Chicago Dana White announced Tate was the #1 contender and would fight Rousey for a third time.
