Although 2012’s “Jack Reacher” wasn’t a huge hit at the domestic box office, it will get a sequel after all.

While there has not been a cast announcement yet, the first “Jack Reacher” also starred Rosamund Pike, Richard Jenkins, and David Oyelowo.

Obviously Cruise is set to reprise his role as Jack Reacher, however director Christopher McQuarrie will not be returning. Paramount announced that the film will premiere on the big screen on October 21, 2016. The movie, which is also based on a novel talks about a single mother, played by Holmes, who struggles to build a life with her daughter.

The first adaptation of a Child’s book ended up grossing $138.8 million across the globe. Founded on a post by Variety, “Cruise declared in July that plans are in the works for a sixth “Mission Impossible” but no date has been set for shooting and no director has yet been attached”. Zwick recently rewrote the script with longtime collaborator Marshall Herskovitz.

Jack Reacher will be back to dole out some more no-nonsense justice in a little over a year. Fans can expect yet another action extravaganza from Tom Cruise but this time in his Jack Reacher avatar.

Opening in the crowded corridor on the eve of Halloween, this announcement pits the studio’s sequel against Ouija 2 and the long-gestating Underworld 5.

Based on the 18 book in a Child’s series, “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back” will reportedly see Cruise’s title character – a former military police officer who roams the country courting danger – reunite with his former military unit, only to be accused of a 16-year-old murder.
