Israel strikes Gaza in response to rocket fire, no injuries

This will be about double the 70,000 truckloads that made their way via Kerem Shalom, the main entry point for cargo into the Gaza Strip, in 2014, before and after Operation Protective Edge, the Crossings Authority in the Defense Ministry said on Wednesday. A rocket fired from Gaza landed in the Ashkelon Coast Regional Council.

No injuries were reported from the rocket fire.

Citing an Israeli security source, Ynet Israeli website said that Israel offered to hand Hamas detained bodies of Palestinian martyrs, in exchange with information about the Israeli detainees in Gaza.

Shortly after 2 AM on Thursday, 29 Tammuz, residents of Ashkelon, Karmiya, Zikim and area communities were awakened to the sound of the Red Alert sirens.

“In response to this attack, Israel Air Force aircraft targeted terrorist infrastructure in the Gaza Strip“, the statement added. Israel imposed a blockade on the Strip after Hamas seized control there in 2007, to prevent the entry of materials that could be used to build rockets or attack tunnels.

“The repeated rocket fire at Israel does not only put the lives of hundreds of thousands of civilians at risk but it is a deliberate decision to target civilians”.

Israel had not announced his ten-month long confinement, but Israeli security services allegedly believe him to be held by the Qassam Brigades, a military wing of Hamas.
