So don’t burn your Photoshops of Tatum in Gambit gear just yet. In fact, Tatum attended the recent Comic Con in San Diego to promote his role as the charismatic thief Remy LeBeau, better known as Gambit, so news of his departure is quite shocking indeed. It is unclear at this stage whether or not Tatum would remain on board the film as a producer, should Gambit move forward. Though, I suppose none of that matters if a divorce is on the horizon.
The Wrap is reporting tonight that Tatum may be exiting the project after deal negotiations with Fox took a hard nosedive. “But this is a standalone movie and it’s the story of Gambit and we’ll probably gradually integrate that character into the X-Men universe as we go”. Gambit was already a big gamble, due to the fact the character is relatively unknown to the general public outside of Taylor Kitsch’s brief appearance in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Gambit is scheduled for release on October 7, 2016.
Uh-oh. There’s some trouble afoot for “Gambit, ‘ the ‘X-Men” movie which was set to star Channing Tatum.
Roger Friedman of Showbiz411 says he received a casting call for 20th Century Fox’s “Gambit” spin-off, which he says is filming in secret in New Orleans under the working title “Chess“.
According to The Wrap, Tatum isn’t out yet as “reps are still in active discussions with the studio but acknowledged that ‘something is up.'”.
It’s definitely worrying that Tatum is suddenly looking to back out of the movie now, only a month after Rupert Wyatt signed on to helm. And given that only its lead star so far has been cast, the report also mentioned that the movie is now doing casting calls for the movie’s supporting actors and actresses.
There is no denying that superhero movies are all the rage at present; in fact, from this year to 2017, more than 10 films based on DC or Marvel characters are slated to be released.
