Attending the gala screening at Roy Thomson Hall were Mirren, co-star Barkhad Abdi (Academy Award nominee for his performance in “Captain Phillips”) and director Gavin Hood (“X-Men Origins: Wolverine”, “Ender’s Game”).
Mirren is known for her candor on the subjects of sexism and ageism in Hollywood. With a civilian life at stake and the clock ticking to stop the terrorist attack, “Eye in the Sky” presents an intense political drama on the edge of modern warfare and human morality.
Also starring in “Eye in the Sky” are Alan Rickman (Harry Potter series, “Love Actually”, “Die Hard”) and Iain Glen (“Game of Thrones”).
While “Eye in the Sky” offers no shortage of fairly repetitive scenes in which bureaucrats pass the buck and “refer up” the chain of command, its strong cast keeps things interesting, and the entertaining film is more commercial than “Good Kill”, which focused on how these drone missions affect the pilot pulling the trigger.
Do you think a man putting his arm around a woman’s shoulders is an act of “ownership”?
“This is happening in our name and what I’m so proud about the movie – about Gavin’s way of approaching the subject – is it’s so nuanced; that the morality in that story, any one of us would sit here going: ‘I don’t know”.
The deal was negotiated between Kent Sanderson of Bleecker Street with Avy Eschenasy on behalf of Bleecker Street and WME Global and Marchand for eOne.
“After the incredible audience and industry reactions to the Toronto premiere, we are delighted to be partnering with Bleecker for the USA release”.
