Google-Twitter search partnership is coming to your desktop

The companies inked a deal in February this year, under which the micro blogging site allowed Google to access its stream of data for Tweets to appear in the search results on mobiles. The tightening of the relationship should be good news for investors most of whom have been calling for a merger.

Confirmation came in a tweeted exchange between the two US tech firms.

Hey @twitter, Search party at our place.

Same as on mobile, the integration of Twitter with Google’s search engine for desktop will provide various results depending on what the users are searching. Google said, to which Twitter replied, “You got it, @google”.

Google and Twitter announced on Friday their partnership placing tweets in online search results has been extended to desktop…

Google and Twitter had a similar arrangement dating back to 2009, However, that deal expired in 2011 and was not renewed due to past Twitter COO Ali Rowghani wanting more control over user content.

The Twitter logo is shown on an LCD screen. The embattled social network has grappled with suppressed growth this year much to the concern of investors. In addition, current Twitter users will benefit greatly by having the Google search platform increase their follower base. This could help boost engagement levels going forward.

Currently, Twitter serves 316 million active users. So far everything is quite with no indication from either camp.
