Android Pay will replace the current Google Wallet app on Google Play, and Google will relaunch a new Wallet app focused on peer-to-peer payments, like Venmo, though it appears the original Wallet app hasn’t yet transitioned.
But the introduction of Apple Pay previous year re-ignited interest in mobile payments among credit card companies, banks and some retailers, pushing Google to go at the market once again.

An updated version of Google Wallet hit Google Play on Wednesday, featuring a new icon, sleeker design, and more functions.
Android Pay works with all NFC-enabled Android devices running KitKat 4.4+. Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover cards from banks including Bank of America, US Bank, PNC, and others can be added to Android Pay starting today.
The new one lets you send money to anyone in the US with an email address regardless of whether they have a Wallet account.
Google stresses the service is security, the technology giant writes on its blog, “Android Pay is supported by industry standard tokenization”. You’ll also need the new Android Pay app, which is actually an updated version of the old Google Wallet app. Google purchased a large part of Softcard’s technological innovation and is mixing the two to make Android Pay. One thing to note: if you’ve been using Google Wallet to tap and pay, there’s a chance that you’ll lose that ability with Android Pay until your individual bank is supported.
Google is betting Android Pay will help its smartphones lure more consumers.
