Google adds 20 new languages to its Translate text translation app

Now Google has added 20 new languages to Google Translate’s instant visual translation Rolodex that can be translated to and from English and 26 other tongues. Thanks to this week’s update, users can live translate to and from English and Bulgarian, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Filipino, Finnish, Hungarian, Indonesian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Polish, Romanian, Slovak, Swedish, Turkish and Ukrainian. With the addition of these new languages, the app designed for both iOS and Android now knows 27 languages. The update will also make speech translation back and forth in two languages relatively easier, especially on a slow connection.

One app which specialises in doing just that is Waygo, which can translate photo-based or other text into Japanese, Chinese and Korean into English. They included: English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Russian, and Portuguese.

Apart from print text translations, it offers voice translations as well in over 90 languages.

In a blog post, Google said, “Convolutional neural networks” is the latest technology that helps in identifying letters and words by clearing the background. First introduced in January google translation added features to translate application features.

Interestingly, Google does not have any linguists on board for its Translate offering.

The function works even without an Internet connection or cell phone data.

Google Translate App can now decipher 27 languages around the world.

Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) bolsters its translating services as it released an update to its popular Google Translate app today. This is only one step in the entire process though, and it continues by getting the app to recognize the letters. And now it’s getting better: Today, the Google Translate team announced that 20 new languages are joining Translate’s stable of instantly translatable languages.

Along with improving the instant translation functionality, the update also improves the voice conversation mode that allows real-time translation across 32 languages. Some of the “Word Lens” languages may require you to download a translation package file, which has a size of about 2-3 megabytes.
