As an estimated 5,000 people gathered to mark the annual Pride celebration with a parade through the streets of Jerusalem, Schlissel approached marchers on Keren Hayesod Street and began screaming, then pulled a knife from his coat and began stabbing his victims.

Vigils have been held to remember a 16-year-old girl fatally stabbed at a Gay Pride march in Israel.

The teen participated in the parade to show solidarity with her LGBT friends.

Hadar Elboim of Hadassah, a spokesman for the hospital where Shira died, said her organs would now be donated to help others.

Shlissel was dressed in ultra-orthodox garb as he charged into the crowd, stabbing six before being restrained by policemen.

“Shira was murdered because she bravely supported the principle that each one can live their life in honor and security”, he said. “We are determined to vigorously fight manifestations of hate, fanaticism and terrorism from whatever side”. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement after sending his condolences to the family.

“Over the last days, we witnessed despicable crimes”, he said, promising to bring their perpetrators to justice.

He had been released from prison just three weeks earlier and had angrily spoken out against the parade after his release. “We can not allow such crimes, and we must condemn those who commit and support them”.

Banki was 16 years old. The assailants signed their work with a spray-painted message that read “Revenge!” in Hebrew, next to a scrawled image of a Star of David.

“We won’t permit the bad murderer to challenge the basic values on which Israeli society is built”.

Threats against Rivlin have appeared on his Facebook page, calling him a “traitor” and a “president of Arabs” for his vehement condemnation of the arson in the northern West Bank.

Israeli police were on high alert, after Palestinian militant groups called for revenge.
