Even though the sales were down nearly 12 percent in 2014 compared to 2013, Toyota Prius remains one of the Japanese automaker’s core models in the U.S. Last year, the company sold more Prius models than General Motors (GM) sold of the Chevrolet Malibu sedan. It would be the current most efficient in fuel consumption if backed up with test results from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Since news that the Aichi, Japan-headquartered automotive manufacturer is releasing an upgrade to its successful Prius line, the rumor mill has been pretty busy with many auto lovers giving their two cents on what the new hybrid should offer. Toyota is claiming a “Huge Boost” in economy. TNGA is Toyota’s new manufacturing system, which aims to standardize parts, development, and production so cars are easier to create and get out onto the market. However, the Prius still retains its space pod shape and this is what disturbed us the most. An eco version of the model will take it even further, thanks to lighter hybrid components and a battery with higher energy density.

Vehicle enthusiasts can expect to see the 2016 Toyota Prius in authorized auto dealerships starting next year.

The Prius 2016 is sleeker and longer from the sides.

Other promises include better road feedback from a new rear double-wishbone suspension, and improved handling and crash safety owing to a more rigid body structure.

“The outgoing 2015 Prius measures 176″ L x 69″ W x 59” H. Toyota says the 2016 Prius will be 2.6 inches longer and 0.6 inches wider.

Toyota also suggests that fuel economy is one aspect of any auto but now customers also search for a vehicle that has great looks as well as performance.

Toyota also upgraded the Prius inside. According to CNN Money, Toyota Prius is an icon among environmentally friendly green cars. “This Prius will invite new drivers into the category by delivering an impressive look and feel, built on the foundation of safety and eco-consciousness that define the vehicle’s heritage”, the Toyota executive said.

The interior retains the layout with a centrally located instrument console, but the design of the elements are fresh.

Toyota is also promising to deliver an outstanding safety technology suite with the Prius, including standard LED headlights, Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist and Automatic High Beams. Toyota anticipates all of the features will be available across the Prius lineup by the end of 2017.
