Former NBA great Darryl ‘Chocolate Thunder’ Dawkins dies of heart attack

When off the court, Darryl Dawkins further increased his net worth by writing his autobiography titled “Chocolate Thunder: The Uncensored Life and Times of Darryl Dawkins“, which was co-authored with Charley Rosen.

Darryl Dawkins, left, with Julius “Dr. J”. I’m stunned, as I’m sure many people are. This was perhaps best exemplified by Dawkins during 1979, when Dawkins broke backboards during slam dunks two different times. He also claimed to be an alien from the planet “Lovetron”, Chron reported.

He was nicknamed Chocolate Thunder. “He was all about fans and being friendly to fans. We ask that the public please respect our privacy as we grieve his loss”.

“Outside of the one season (1983-84 when the Nets eliminated the defending NBA-champion Sixers in the first round of the playoffs, 3 games to 2) our franchise really struggled, but the team chemistry was extremely good and Darryl was a large part of that”.

When you saw a game with him playing, you were entertained.

The memory made Williams laugh out loud.

Darryl Dawkins is the father of power dunking”, Shaquille O’Neal once said. He most recently had coached at Lehigh Carbon Community College. Dawkins was one of the most efficient big men of all-time with four seasons ranked in the top five in field goal percentage and finished seventh all-time in the aforementioned category per sports-reference.com.

LCCC athletic director Jocelyn Beck told me that’s typical of the man. Here he coached, first with the Valley Dawgs, then mentoring young players at LCCC. “He does that with every person”.

Dawkins’ shows of force unquestionably changed the game.

Darryl Dawkins was one of the original baby boomers, signing a seven-year, $1 million contract with the Philadelphia 76ers after graduating from Orlando’s Evans High School in 1975.

Dawkins was a trailblazer known for his powerful dunks. His presence had a way of lighting up any room, and it is something that his family and friends as well as those who only knew him through those brief moments will miss dearly. “My answer to them”, he said, “is that I’ve got three kids coming up through the Parkland School District”.
