The friend of a talented footballer killed in yesterday’s horrific Shoreham Airshow accident has spoken of his shock. “We have only just joined but they are such nice guys down there”.

Reece Mills, from Southwick, who also played alongside Matt at Mile Oak FC has described his former team-mate as having “the biggest heart going”.

Mr Grimstone was a goalkeeper with the non-league club, while Mr Schilt played in midfield.

“It is not our place to dictate what may or may not be published anywhere, but from a personal perspective, I would ask people to consider the feelings of those who have lost loved ones in this incident and indeed, who may still not have heard from them and are seeking information”.

Worthing United midfielder Jacob Schilt, 23, died when a 1950s Hawker Hunter aircraft crashed into traffic and pedestrians on the A27.

The club said: “Worthing United Football Club players Matt Grimstone and Jacob Schilt are both believed to be among the victims of yesterday’s tragic Shoreham airshow crash”.

Mountfield United FC wrote on Twitter: “Deepest thoughts and condolences go to @WorthingUtdFC and everyone involved with the terrible scenes yesterday at Shoreham”.

Burgess Hill said: “Deepest thoughts go out to @WorthingUtdFC for the loss of 2 players in Shoreham Air Disaster”.

Prayers for the crash victims and their families were said at St Mary de Haura Church, where a minute’s silence was held.

Police, meanwhile, warned that the death toll in the crash may rise.

He added: “Sadly, as a result of our initial work at the site, which has continued overnight, and inquiries following calls to the emergency services from anxious families and friends, we have now identified 11 people who we are treating as highly likely to have died in this tragedy”.

Now in light of yesterday’s events, Brett said the charity would be doing something in memory of Jacob but first needed to consult with his friends.
