FKA twigs drops new song ‘Figure 8′

“Figure 8″ is a new song by FKA Twigs, and it’s creepy and lovely and inspired by voguing.

“‘Figure 8′ represents eternity”, she told the host of the track’s inspiration before detailing that she wrote it when she was “feeling quite sad and a bit lost” after LP1 dropped and the madness of touring and fame began.

From the get-go, the song – which premiered Monday (Aug. 3) on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 Radio – sucks its listener in to an astonishingly entrancing experience not unlike that of her 2014 album LP1. Angelic yet robotic, Twigs’ vocal performance invades its listener mysteriously.

You can listen to the new track and full Zane Lowe interview below. It was in New York that she started to vogue, she explains, under the dancer Derrick Prodigy, who taught her of the importance of eternity in voguing, and how every hand motion is a figure eight that flows, without stop, into the next.

FKA twigs has never had a problem projecting the female energy. On new cut “Figure 8″, her mechanistic R&B sounds bigger than ever before while still recalling the 80s club culture that birthed theatrical cuts like “Glass & Patron” and her recent Soundtrack 7 residency.
