First Ubuntu-powered smartphones launched in India

Both Spanish smartphone maker BQ on Thursday announced the launch of its Aquaris E4.5 and Aquaris E5 Ubuntu Edition phones in India, in exclusive partnership with Snapdeal.martphones E4.5 and 45 will be sold in black color and come fully unlocked with dual SIM functionality.



The Aquaris E5 Ubuntu Edition, on the other hand, features a 5-inch HD display and is powered by a quad-core processor.

Canonical’s vice president, Cristian Parrino said,”Launching Ubuntu phones in India is a fantastic milestone as we strive to make Ubuntu phones available to enthusiasts and developers in as many markets as possible, during this first phase of our launch”.

The 8GB Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition features a five megapixel front camera and eight megapixel rear camera with autofocus, dual flash and full HD (1080p) for super sharp video. Both the devices run on the Ubuntu-based operating system and will be available via Snapdeal. Anyhow, let’s check out what these phones have to offer, shall we. For storage, it has 8 GB of internal memory. It also sports a 5MP front facing camera. This Smartphone comes with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass protection. Aquaris E5 Ubuntu is powered by 2100mAh Li-ion battery completes the package. It will provide quintessential experience to the user. The device measures 137x67x9mm and weighs 123 grams.

The Aquaris E5 comes with a 5-inch HD (1280×720) IPS display with a Dragontrail glass protection. Besides, it has a 2150 mAh battery, dual micro SIM slot, 32 GB expandable storage, WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS with A-GPS, and a host of sensors.

 

The new phones should arrive in India through Snapdeal by the end of August, but there is no precise date.
