The recalled trucks could have a wiring harness in the steering wheel that wears out, causing the truck’s airbag to go off. “Such put on might trigger a brief circuit which will result in inadvertent driver-side air-bag deployment”, the USA unit (previously Chrysler Group) of the worldwide automaker stated in a press release. Dealers will isolate wires and put caps on the springs.

The company says drivers and passengers should wear seat belts in addition to relying on air bags.

The automaker also added it is recalling around 190,337 Ram heavy-duty trucks in North America to check and fix bracket welds that could have an effect on steering. It involves Ram models 1500, 2500, 3500 from 2012 to 2014.

If the weld fails, steering components can come apart and cause reduced steering capability, the company said in a statement. These trucks include Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickups; and 3500, 4500 and 5500 Chassis Cabs. The vehicle maker said it knows of one “minor accident” stemming from the problem. Affected models will be getting a reinforcement bracket installed.

Fiat Chrysler says customers affected can schedule an inspection and get free repairs. Its recalls will be under “rigorous federal oversight” for the next three years. At the time, too, the company had also been required to make an offer to buy back nearly 200,000 Dodge SUVs and Ram pickup trucks. It’s the company’s top-selling model in the U.S.
