A person familiar with the situation says the Charlotte Hornets have agreed to a contract with free-agent power forward Tyler Hansbrough. He spent his first four seasons with the Indiana Pacers and the last four with the Toronto Raptors. The Missouri native started his career with the Indiana Pacers and received a bit more playing time, but he seems to have found his role in the league as a bench player.
During the 2014-15 season with the Raptors, Hansbrough played in 74 games and started in eight of those appearances. He is the sixth new player to join the Hornets this offseason. However, his playing time and production have steadily decreased since that season.
The former North Carolina Tar Heel is coming back to North Carolina to wreak some havoc like he did in his psycho T days. Despite the lack of consistency in his minutes, Hansbrough continued working hard and was prepared to take the court whenever his number was called up.
During his career, Tyler has averaged 7.2 points per game and 4.5 rebounds per game. That in and of itself made signing with the Hornets an easy decision for Hansbrough. Al Jefferson is locked in as the starting center, while first round pick Frank Kaminsky, along with Spencer Hawes and Cody Zeller, will also be competing for minutes at the two frontcourt spots. Hansbrough is best known for his aggressive close to the basket play.
