For the first time, Game of Thrones won best drama series (for its fifth season) and Veep won best comedy series (for its fourth), leaving Mad Men and Modern Family stuck in ties with others for the record number of wins in their categories at four and five, respectively.



They include Viola Davis and Taraji P. Henson, who could become the first non-white victor in the best drama series actress category.

Jeffrey Tambor won best actor in a comedy for his role as a transgendered person on “Transparent“.

The show was the highest award earner taking home 12 awards out of its 24 nominations, the most to be won by any show in a year.

In addition to drama series honours, it scored wins for drama writing (for David Benioff and DB Weiss) and directing (David Nutter) – a recognition of the fantasy series’ undeniable popularity and the scale of the production.
