On Sunday, it also won awards for writing, directing and for supporting actor Peter Dinklage.

Louis-Dreyfus won her fourth consecutive Emmy Award, taking home the trophy for lead actress in a comedy series for her role in Veep.

Veep” won five total Emmys, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (Julia Louis-Dreyfus).

“If you had told me as a small child growing up in England”, said Cordon said in mock-wonder, that he would grow up to present to Emmy’s audience of millions this august trio from the Ernst & Young accounting firm, “I would have said, ‘Sod off!”

Davis won for her portrayal of a lawyer and professor in the ABC freshman dramaHow to Get Away With Murder“.

Then came my second favorite moment of the night: Jon Hamm finally (FINALLY!) winning Outstanding Actor in a Drama for “Mad Men“.

“There’s been a awful mistake clearly”, said Hamm, who clambered onto the stage rather than walking up the stairs.

Premiering on AMC in July 2007, “Mad Men” is included in critics’ lists of the greatest television series of all-time. The series finished after seven seasons earlier this year.

The drama awards were a little better, if only because I was surprised at how many awards Game of Thrones got (for a relatively weak season, I thought). “Thank you for that”, Hamm stated after hilariously crawling on the stage to receive his award.

Game of Thrones picked up a record-breaking 12 awards, including best drama series at this year’s Emmys in Los Angeles.

“It’s incredible and impossible for me personally to be standing here”, Hamm said after receiving a standing ovation from the audience at the 67th Emmys.

“To everybody on television, I just want to tell you, cling to it as long as you can”, joked Stewart, who’s turning over “Daily Show” to Trevor Noah.

The outstanding directing for a comedy series award was bagged by Jill Soloway for Transparent. I thought Kerry Washington won it a couple of years ago, but that was a Golden Globe. Allison Janney of Mom and Tony Hale of Veep were repeat winners for supporting comedy acting.

Although Poehler didn’t win the lead actress in a comedy series Emmy, she didn’t seem that bothered-the actress donned a hooded sweatshirt and glasses during the announcement, looking completely at peace in her seat.

To express her joy, and pride, Davis invoked the spirit of the prolific, African-American abolitionist, Harriet Tubman, by quoting Tubman in her acceptance speech.

Supporting Actor, Limited Series or Movie: Bill Murray, “Olive Kitteridge“, HBO.

And Inside Amy Schumer was named best variety sketch series.
