Darren Wheatley, high-risk sex offender, wanted by Vancouver police

A man with a history of convictions for sex crimes and attacks on Ontario women is wanted by Vancouver police for being unlawfully at large.

According to police, Darren Wheatley is a high-risk sex offender who did not return to his halfway house Thursday night.

A Canada-wide warrant was issued after Wheatley breached court-imposed release conditions and failed to report to the halfway house.

He is a two-time federal offender who served a 10-year sentence for two counts of sexual assault causing bodily harm and two count of overcoming resistance by choking. In March 2015 he was arrested at a Surrey drop-in centre; a year earlier he was discovered in Kelowna.

He’s described as an Aboriginal male, 5-feet 6-inches tall, 217 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Police say not to approach Patrick and to call 911 immediately if he’s spotted.
