Cross to garner Maruti larger base in premium business

“Our target is to sell around 3,000-4,000 units of the S-Cross per month”, he said, adding that the company has already received over 30,000 inquiries and 6,000 bookings of the S-Cross. With no Maruti branding seen anywhere on the vehicle, the country’s largest automaker is trying to get rid of the small auto image that is associated with the “M” word. The design of the dashboard is very identical to that of European model. To tackle Indian road conditions, the ground clearance is rated at 180 mm (unladen). It has soft touch dashboard, adjustable rear seatbacks, luxurious upholstery, overhead console with map lamps and a holder for sunglasses. The interiors are plush, upmarket and spacious with high quality fit and finish and top notch features. There are a few storage points under the centre console and front armrest. A 1.3-litre diesel mill with a variable geometry turbocharger developing 90PS of power and 200Nm of torque runs under the new crossover. The taillamps get chrome accents and the auto rides on 16-inch alloy wheels. The crossover comes with twin diesel options – the DDiS 200 1.3L across four variants (Sigma/ Rs 8.83 lakh, Delta/Rs 9.68 lakh, Zeta/Rs 9.99 lakh and Alpha/Rs 11.36 lakh) as well as the DDiS 320 1.6L at Rs 12.66 lakh for Delta trim, Rs 13.71 lakh for Zeta, and Rs 14.50 lakh for the Alpha variant. The new DDiS320 1.6-litre engine is also sourced from Fiat.

The DDiS320 variants are available in Delta, Zeta and Alpha trims and are offered at base prices of Rs11,99,000, Rs12,99,000 and Rs13,74,000, respectively. It is capable of 120 PS and 320 Nm of torque, and is paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

The S-Cross is what Maruti calls a “premium crossover”, though it is essentially a station-wagon with beefed-up looks. “It is in that spirit today, we are launching S-Cross“. Maruti Suzuki’s newest vehicle is all set to compete with cars like the Toyota Etios Cross, the Ford Ecosport, the Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and the older Mahindra Scorpio.

Safety is first at S-CROSS with its Hi-Tensile Steel Body, all wheel disc brakes with ABS, Front seat pre-tensioner and force limiter.
