Coronation Street’s Simon Barlow gets drunk

None of that trouble could have prepared her for her most recent hurdle though, as adopted son Simon spins wildly out of control and starts taking his anger out on his mum in the most violent of ways.

It’s not long before Zeedan spots a bruise on Leanne’s leg though, and when grandad Ken invites them round for dinner the pressure to reveal the truth is really mounting.

Here, Jane Danson – who plays Leanne – explains how her character copes as Simon’s bad behaviour escalates. Back at home, an mad Leanne doesn’t have the patience to listen to Simon’s excuses, but will Simon be able to control his fury in his drunken stupor? The occurrence comes after earlier tensions when Simon lashes out at her after she bans him from football practice, due to his offensive behaviour.

As Simon’s rages spiral further out of control, Leanne’s loved ones start to ask questions about her mysterious injuries – making it increasingly hard for her to keep covering for him.

Later, Leanne’s pleased when Simon appears to be enjoying himself, but she doesn’t notice when Simon steals a bottle of vodka from behind the bar…

Leanne hopes to get on Simon’s good side by letting him invite a group of friends over to her restaurant for lunch.

“She’s really saddened by that and scared by it too”. Leanne tries to hide her concern as she tells him he mustn’t worry and gives him Simon a hug. Elsewhere Luke is suspicious of Maria when she tells him she’s popping into town.

Desperate to get him off her, Leanne pushes him away, causing Simon to stumble and cut his arm. Maria hatches a plan when Luke tells her he wants to take her on holiday but can’t afford to go. “Her and Simon have always been a little team and she’s determined enough to want to deal with it on her own”.

Has she considered getting professional help?

“She’s living a bit of a nightmare at the minute and she doesn’t know what to do” says Danson. Every time Simon is nasty or abusive, he’s then nice again a bit later and she thinks they can sort it out.

Andrea tells Jess she’s transferred the money, but when Lloyd later tells her he wants to help and will sell some of his records, why does Andrea feel so guilty?
